Hair Salon Serving Shrewsbury Township, NJ
Shrewsbury Township is the smallest municipality in New Jersey. Not one of the smallest. The smallest, ranked 565th of 565 by land area, at a tenth of a square mile. If you live here you already know the other part: almost nobody outside the county understands that you are not Shrewsbury Borough.
The town that most of this county used to be
Shrewsbury Township was formed on October 31, 1693 and once covered a long stretch of eastern Monmouth County. Over the three centuries that followed, 74 new municipalities were created out of its boundaries. What is left is a tenth of a square mile and 1,076 residents at the 2020 census.
Two of those 74 have their own pages on this site. Ocean Township was carved out in 1849. Tinton Falls is one of the two towns you now border, and the other is Shrewsbury Borough.
Camp Vail, and where our chairs actually sit
The land that is still Shrewsbury Township is the Alfred Vail Mutual Association, a cooperative housing development. It was originally built as Camp Vail, a complex of 265 homes for the families of Fort Monmouth employees.
Rogue is at 700 Oceanport Ave, Suite 712, in the RiverWalk Center at Fort Monmouth. So the drive from your door to our chair is a short lap around the same piece of ground your neighborhood was built to serve. Just over three miles, about nine minutes.
Two names, one phone call
We take bookings from the township and the borough and we do not need you to specify which. If you say Shrewsbury, we will work it out. The only place it actually matters is directions. The borough sits at Broad Street and Sycamore Avenue. The township is west of it, off Shrewsbury Avenue. Different approach, same salon.
Corrections that need two sittings
Big changes often cannot be done safely in one appointment. Coming off box dye, or going from years of dark to a real blonde, is the usual case. Forcing it into one sitting is how hair breaks.
At nine minutes away, splitting that work across two appointments costs you very little. It is worth knowing before you book, because the honest answer to "can you fix this today" is sometimes no, and the reason is the hair rather than the schedule.
The apprentice option, said plainly
An apprentice does your service under the supervision of a senior stylist, at a reduced rate. It takes longer than a standard appointment because the work gets checked as it goes. Details are on the apprentice services page.
Booking around the Tinton Falls school calendar
Children here attend the Tinton Falls district for kindergarten through eighth grade, which catches out people who move in from the borough. It matters to us for one practical reason. If you want cuts done before picture day or the first week back, book two or three weeks ahead. September is the same crush at every salon in the county, and the calendar you are working to here is Tinton Falls, not Shrewsbury.
About the salon
Rogue opened in 2016. Sharon and Brittani own it, a mother and daughter who both still work the floor. Every stylist has a page on this site, so you can read about yours before you book. Hair and nails happen in the same building, so one visit can cover both.
