What are apprentice services at Rogue Salon?
Apprentice services at Rogue Salon are reduced rate cuts, blowouts, color, highlights, balayage, and keratin done by our stylists in training. Senior stylists stay involved and check the work along the way. They're for you if you want Rogue quality at a lower rate. They're also an easy way to try the salon.
Who are apprentice services for?
Apprentice services suit you if you want great hair and a friendlier rate. They're also a relaxed first visit. You get an unhurried appointment, a careful apprentice, and a senior stylist checking in.
They also suit students, guests keeping a color fresh between bigger visits, and anyone new to Oceanport trying us out. If you love it, you can stay with your apprentice as they grow. Lightening is where the apprentice menu has the most choice, with five highlight and balayage services.
Which services can an apprentice do?
- Cuts and blowouts: Blowout, Women's Haircut & Blowout.
- Color: Single Process Root Retouch, Color or Clear Glaze.
- Lightening: Face Frame Sun Kissed Highlights, Partial Highlights, Full Highlights, Partial Balayage, Balayage.
- Smoothing: Keratin & Brazilian Blowout, Keratin Express.
The five lightening services have two tiers, an Apprentice rate and an Advanced apprentice rate. Both sit below our standard menu. See current pricing on our Service Menu.
How does an apprentice appointment work?
- Book the apprentice option. Choose the apprentice service when you book online, or call and ask for the apprentice rate.
- Consultation. Your apprentice talks through your hair, your history, and your goal, just like any Rogue visit.
- The service. Your apprentice does the cut, color, lightening, or keratin, following our standards for technique.
- Senior check. A senior stylist looks over the work as it goes, so nothing is left to chance.
- Finish and aftercare. You leave styled, with the same home care advice our senior team gives.
Is aftercare different for apprentice services?
No. Your hair doesn't know who held the brush, so it needs the same care. A keratin from an apprentice still needs sulfate free products. A balayage still benefits from a glaze between visits.

Why does Rogue run an apprentice program?
Apprentices take real guests at a reduced rate under supervision. That's how the trade is meant to work, and it's how our senior stylists were trained too.
It keeps our team growing. Our Senior Apprentice and Apprentice Stylist work alongside experienced stylists every day. Today's apprentice is tomorrow's stylist. Our menu lists the levels, from Junior Stylist up to Master Stylist, plus our Apprentices. If you're a newer stylist who wants to learn this way, our careers page lists the Apprentice role.
Who does apprentice services at Rogue?
Brittani, our Co-Owner and Stylist, opened Rogue in 2016 with her mom, Sharon. They built it around creativity, education, and community, and the apprentice program grows out of that. Brittani keeps training herself, from advanced cutting to Redken classes and keratin certifications. Maddie, our Senior Apprentice, lists blowouts, styling, color, blonding, balayage, hair painting, keratins, and Brazilian Blowout. Hannah, our Apprentice Stylist, loves color, layered cuts, and bouncy blowouts.

Apprentice Services questions
Are apprentice services lower quality?
No. Our apprentices follow the same standards for consultation, technique, and aftercare as our senior team. Senior stylists stay involved and check the work along the way. The lower rate reflects that the stylist is still in training, not a lower standard.
What's the difference between the Apprentice and Advanced rates?
Our lightening services have two apprentice tiers. The Advanced rate is for apprentices further along in their training, and it sits between the Apprentice rate and our standard menu. Both tiers are listed on our Service Menu for each highlight and balayage option.
Can I get keratin at an apprentice rate?
Yes. Keratin and Brazilian Blowout and Keratin Express are both on the apprentice menu. Maddie, our Senior Apprentice, lists keratins and Brazilian Blowout as specialties. You'll get the same aftercare guidance as with any smoothing treatment.
Can I move to a senior stylist later?
Of course. Many guests start with an apprentice and then book with any stylist that fits their needs. Others stay with their apprentice as they move up. Switching is easy either way, and your new stylist starts with a consultation.
Can an apprentice cut my hair?
Yes. The Women's Haircut and Blowout is on the apprentice menu, and Hannah, our Apprentice Stylist, loves layered cuts. Men's and kids' cuts are on our standard menu, so book those with any of our stylists who list cutting.
How do I book an apprentice service?
Choose the apprentice option when you book online, or call us at (732) 389-1999 and ask for the apprentice rate. If you're not sure which service fits your hair, tell us your goal and we'll point you to the right one.
