Little Silver is one of the closest towns to us, and it sits on the North Jersey Coast Line, so a lot of people here need hair that looks finished at 6:40 in the morning without twenty minutes of work.

The station itself is worth a mention. Little Silver's depot opened in 1875 and sits on the National Register, designed by Henry Hobson Richardson, one of the most significant American architects of the nineteenth century. It was rebuilt in 1890 and again in 2003. Most people waiting on that platform have no idea they are standing in a Richardson building.

Color that survives a commute

If you are on a train five days a week, the enemy is not damage, it is upkeep. We steer commuter clients toward a few things:

  • Root shadow or a soft root. Blending the base into the lightener means your grow-out reads as intentional for eight to twelve weeks instead of six.
  • Foilyage over classic foils when you want brightness but cannot come in every six weeks.
  • A cut with internal weight removed rather than heavy surface layering. It air-dries better, which matters when you are out the door before you are fully awake.

We would rather build you something that looks good on week ten than something that looks perfect on day two and rough by week five.

Smoothing, and why it comes up here

Little Silver sits on the Shrewsbury River, and the humidity that comes off it in July does what humidity does. Keratin, Brazilian Blowout and Magic Sleek all cut down drying time and swelling, but they are not the same service and they do not suit the same hair. That is a consultation conversation, not a menu pick, and we do not charge for it.

What we will ask you at the first appointment

Three questions, and they are not small talk. How long is your commute and do you style before or after it. What have you had done in the last twelve months, including box color and any smoothing service, because both change how lightener behaves. And how many minutes are you actually willing to spend on this at home. The honest answer to the third question is what determines the cut and the placement, and nobody is judged for saying five.

A little local history

The Parker Homestead on Rumson Road is one of the oldest standing buildings in New Jersey. The structure dates to 1720 and the family's history on the land goes back to 1665. It stayed in the Parker family until 1996, when it was left to the borough, and it is listed on both the state and national registers. The borough covers 2.80 square miles and was a farming and fishing community long before it was a commuter one.

The small commercial strip on Prospect Avenue is the other landmark, in the sense that it is where people actually go. We are a mile and a half past it, about five minutes.

Worth knowing about the commercial strip: Prospect Avenue carries the cafes, the shops and the municipal library in a few walkable blocks, and that is most of the borough's retail. There is no mall here and no strip corridor, which is part of why residents are used to driving a few minutes out for services. We are one of those few minutes.

Hair and nails in one visit

This is the practical reason a lot of Little Silver clients pick us. We do manicures and pedicures in the same building, so you can have your nails done while color processes rather than booking a second appointment on a second day. For anyone counting the hours between trains, that is the whole pitch.

Who we are

Rogue opened in 2016. Sharon and Brittani, a mother and daughter, own it and both still take clients. There are eleven stylists, each with their own page, so you can read about someone before you sit in their chair. We also run an apprentice program with supervised services at a reduced rate.
