Hair Salon Serving Eatontown, NJ
Eatontown is next door to us, and it is changing as fast as Oceanport is. Eight of the twelve Netflix soundstages going up on the former Fort Monmouth land will sit on the Eatontown parcel, with those stages expected by the end of 2028.
The mall, and what is happening to it
Monmouth Mall opened on March 1, 1960 as the Monmouth Shopping Center, an open-air site with fourteen buildings and fifty stores, built on farmland that belonged to the Valentino family. It was enclosed and renamed in 1975 and roughly doubled in size. For most people who grew up in this county it was the default weekend.
It is now in the middle of a roughly $500 million de-malling, which broke ground in May 2024. The plan cuts retail to around 900,000 square feet and adds public green space, medical offices, and about a thousand apartments.
That matters to us for a boring reason: a thousand new apartments is a thousand households who will need a salon, and we are five minutes away with a free lot.
Wolf Hill, which almost nobody knows the history of
Wolf Hill Recreation Area is ninety-one acres bought by the county park system in 1997, and it used to be part of Monmouth Park. Before that it was a working farm, and during the Second World War it was a US Army training facility. There are still traces of that across the property. Today it has an eighteen-hole disc golf course and a four-acre off-leash dog area, one of only two the county runs.
The borough itself is named for Thomas Eaton, who built a mill here around 1670. Population is a little over thirteen thousand.
What tends to make sense here
Practical work, mostly. Cuts for the whole family, single-process color kept on schedule, blowouts before things, and nails. Hair and nails together is an easy win here, and we can do both in one visit because both happen in the same building.
Kids' cuts are worth a specific mention. We do them, we are not precious about them, and we would rather a child's first haircut go well here than badly somewhere that treats it as an inconvenience.
The borough has older bones than the retail corridor suggests. St. James Memorial Church of Eatontown is on the National Register, and the town has been a crossroads since Thomas Eaton's mill went up around 1670. The Netflix stages going up on the Fort Monmouth parcel are the newest layer on a place that has been a throughway for three and a half centuries.
Appointments around a working day
A lot of our Eatontown clients are fitting this in around work and school runs, so two things are useful to know. Thursday runs until eight, which is the only evening slot we have and the one to ask for if you cannot leave during the day. And Saturday, nine to four, books out first every week. If Saturday is the only day that works, book the next one before you leave the salon. We are closed Mondays, and Sunday is by appointment, so it is worth calling rather than assuming.
If you are new to professional color
Start smaller than you think. A gloss changes tone without commitment and rinses out over a few weeks. Highlights are a longer relationship, because once you have lightened hair you are maintaining lightened hair. Neither is wrong, but knowing which one you are signing up for prevents most of the regret we see.
